As the job title suggests there are two elements to the position. Actuarial and Analysis. The Actuarial part is that where risks involved in various incidents like death, illnesses, accidents, fire, floods etc are statistically collected and studied. Analysis is that part where using mathematical and statistical models, such risks are assessed for future possibilities for insurance and other risk minimizing purposes.
An Actuarial Analyst therefore will analyze data compiled and tabulated by an Actuary. An analytical mind, capable of compiling and studying a variety of data to analyze possible current and future possibilities is what an employer will look for.
