A Broadcast Producer, as the title says is responsible for producing shows that are broadcast by radio, cable TV and television. The shows could be advertising shorts, drama or documentary films or recordings. The job is a typical multi tasking one where the producer’s responsibility revolves around coordinating the activities of a number of people within and without. Critical areas will be to ensure that the various elements are all completed within budget and time limits and put together in a form that is ready for broadcasting.
Typically, knowledge of the various activities that go into production such as audio work, scene sets, background music, timing, camera operation, and scripting would have been acquired on job, usually starting off in one specialty and moving on to the others and eventually into putting them all together. Detailed experience in switching as per the Director’s requirements, editing, and other nitty-gritty of the whole process will be expected.
Since the whole exercise is built around working with a number of people such as, Directors, Clients and vendors/hirers of equipment and props, high people and communications skills will also be expected.
