A budget analyst draws up income and expenditure forecasts and ensures that the drawn up budgets are met, or find the cause for not being met so that amended budgets can be drawn up. This is a detailed planning and implementing exercise calling for a great deal of patience, attention to detail, broad appreciation of the intricacies involved in all the units within the organization for which the budget is being drawn.
While an accounting background is not essential to become a Budget Analyst, it helps if one has either accounting or business management qualifications and/or experience.
