A cashier’s job is a highly responsible one requiring some specific skills such as quickness in arithmetic calculation, excellent communication and interpersonal relations, pleasant appearance and most importantly, a high degree of honesty and integrity.
It is usually a taxing job requiring cashiers to be standing for a full shift behind a secure area and one is usually not allowed to exit the station except under supervisory permission and stand in replacement. The job is inevitably indoors and requires the Cashier to start the day with a drawer full of cash, bill as customers come up to the payment counter, collect payments, issue receipts, give change, and at the end of day sum up all transactions and settle accounts by counting the cash in the drawers and tallying it with the book entries made during the day.
High School Diploma is the base qualification that is required and anything higher is always welcomed by employers. Since one would like to progress from the position, one can use the opportunity for continuing education and acquire accounting qualifications to move from the Cashier’s position.
