Chef denotes someone who cooks. Originally French for Chief of the Kitchen, in current use, it has become popular as the person who cooks. The Chief of the Kitchen is now known as Executive Chef.
People passionate about cooking make the best Chefs, and it is an arduous process to become a Chef. Chefs mostly start at Intern levels while still studying in an Institution teaching culinary arts. This is usually followed by a Traineeship in a hotel or a restaurant starting from the lowest level of the hierarchy in the kitchen.
The long apprenticeship and training pays off in the long run as Chefs are always in demand as the Food and Beverages segment of the hospitality industry is constantly growing and offers great scope for growth and variety. Good chefs can command high salaries and can look forward to job security if they are really good in an industry notorious for high turnover of staff. Poaching is very common with new restaurants constantly coming up and this accounts for the high turnover within the industry.
A chef Resume should ideally highlight the experience and employers usually look for people who stay with employers for long periods rather than frequent changers.
