Usually reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, and often a member of the board of directors, the Chief Financial Officer is the person responsible for the current and future financial well being of the organization. He is expected to arrange for the financial resources for the successful operation by proper planning to mobilize, optimize returns and utilize the financial resources raised. He is also expected to minimize all risks in the financial aspects of the business.

While qualification in Accountancy is desirable, it is not absolutely essential when seeking this position as long as one has adequate work experience and some other relevant qualification such as an MBA or a Masters in Economics.

Since considerable liaison work with Government bodies, Auditors, Share holders, the press, and the public, it is desirable that the Chief Financial Officer has a high degree of communication and effective interpersonal skills.
