College Professor Resumes Tips
A College Professor is expected to teach, conduct research in his subject and guide students to conduct research and progress in acquiring the knowledge in his specialized field.
There are many types of College Professors, the most sought after one being the Tenured Professor. The others can be Visiting Professors, Research Professors etc. For the purpose of this article, we shall restrict ourselves to the Tenured Professor.
A tenured Professor is one whose employment with the college is guaranteed till retirement to give him the academic freedom. Except for dismissal with due cause, a tenured Professor cannot be removed from his professorship.
A Tenured Professorship is obtained by promotion from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and finally to full Professorship.
To become an Assistant Professor, the one qualification most essential is a Doctorate i.e a Ph D in the subject that the Professor wishes to teach/research in etc. Since this is a long drawn process, most Assistant Professors start off as Teaching Assistants and apply for Assistant Professorship positions on obtaining their Ph Ds.
Assistant Professors are either confirmed as Associate Professors and given Tenure or dismissed. It is rare for Tenured Professors to seek change of employment and it is usually for personal reasons for relocation or health that this happens. It may also be at the invitation of a College under special circumstances.
College Professor Resumes need not be elaborate in achievements as the world of academics is by and large aware of the world and its people.
