Contracts Managers are those employed in preparing contracts that protect the interests of
their employers. Since a contract can have serious implications, attention to detail,
exhaustive research to ensure that all possible scenarios are covered and a thorough
knowledge of the employer’s policies, systems and procedures besides strategic direction will
be required to be effective.
Typically, Contracts Managers will be Graduates with a few years of commercial experience
though Business Management qualifications are normally preferred. If additional legal
qualifications are also acquired, premiums on remuneration can be expected.
Considerable experience will be required however when entering into contracts with the
Government, local, state and federal and people with experience in these areas are usually
preferred.
Accreditation to professional bodies such as the Natioanl Contracts Managers Association, is
also very much desired.
