Copy Editors are employed by News Papers, Magazines, Publishers and other Printers to ensure that what is published meets with the publisher’s house style or value system, is free of grammatical and spelling errors and most importantly, that the matter is not subject to libel laws and do not infringe on copyrights and other intellectual property rights. Copy Editors must also ensure that the facts as written are accurate and reflect reality.
By and large, Copy Editors are professional writers or journalists who grow into the position with experience and in-house training.
Copy Editors can be on full time employment, or free-lance on a per job basis. They often are employed by non publishing organizations like companies with in-house publications and who issue printed matter along with products such as instructional manuals.
