With increasing dispersed family conditions, many people find it necessary to access professional counseling to effectively handle difficulties, such as breaking down marriages, poor schooling, interpersonal relations, addictions, loneliness, obsessions etc, and Professional Counselors provide this to them.
Counselors are trained to listen to, interpret, analyze and advise people on their personal problems.
There are many types of Counselors and some are: Marriage Counselors, Career Counselors, Recovery Counselors, Addiction Counselors, Elders Counselors, Group Therapists, School Counselors etc. You will have to decide on the area, which is of the greatest interest to you and proceed to acquire an education in that specific area, as well as hands on internship training, before you can become a Professional Counselor.
While some areas of counseling will not require licenses to practise as a Counselor, most areas do in most states of the USA and one must possess a valid license from the appropriate authority, when applying for a position as a Counselor.
